I know virtually nothing about goalkeeping, but this looks like a straight-up mistake by the keeper.

I don't understand why blocking the ball away with one's fist(s) seems to be a recommended technique. This kind of block seems designed to give the ball right back to the attacking team, right in front of your goal. That is, if you are lucky enough to send the ball out and away from the goal!

Perhaps one of you goalkeepers can explain to me?
